FAQs...

Can I see how much the charge points are costing me?

Yes you can. There are a number of different ways of doing this. For some customers the simplest solution is to install a dedicated sub-meter that records the usage for each charge point in a similar way to your existing electricity meter. For other customers who would like more sophisticated monitoring by time-of-day and by user we can recommend and install the appropriate back-office software solution to meet your requirements.

Can I lock the charger to prevent unauthorised use?

There are two ways of doing this. Firstly, some of the charge points we install (such as the MyEnergi Zappi) can be configured with a PIN code to prevent unauthorised use. Secondly, by configuring an App or RFID tag based system we can set the charge points up so that only authorised users can access them. You can even set different access parameters e.g. staff can charge between 8am-6pm and members of the public can charge 6pm-8am.

How do I know if I have sufficient electrical capacity for these charge points?

The electrical supply to your location is a key consideration when specifying the number & type of charge point(s) that can be installed. As part of our survey process we will tell you how many charge points you can have installed and at what power output. There are several ways of managing the available power supply to avoid expensive electrical upgrades and we can advise the best approach to your site & charging needs. For example, when we install at an office location where the vehicles are plugged in for ~7 hrs at a time the power requirements are different to when we install at a delivery hub where the vehicle only has ~2hrs of ‘downtime’ before it needs to be on the road again.

How does the OZEV grant scheme work & am I eligible?

There is a Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) grant available for up to £350 per charging point installed which we can help you claim. The grant covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV charge points (inclusive of VAT), capped at a maximum of:

£350 per socket40 sockets across all sites per applicant – for instance, if you would like to install them in 40 sites, you will have 1 socket available per site

You can read more about the WCS scheme eligibility here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/workplace-charging-scheme-guidance-for-applicants

There is also a grant available for charging infrastructure. The EV infrastructure grant for staff and fleets is for small-to-medium-sized businesses in the UK and covers up to 75% of the cost of installing the infrastructure needed for charge points to operate and for future charge points to be installed, as well as the cost of any chargepoints installed. There is a limit of £15,000 per grant and £500 per parking space.

How to I generate revenue from my home charge point?

Firstly, you will need to have the right charging points specified that be set up to allow users to pay for their charging session, this is something we can help you with. Secondly, we then integrate a payment and billing solution to your charging point. This allows users to start/stop a charging session through their phone and pay for any electricity used (plus any margin you choose to apply). It works in a very similar way to how you pay for parking on your phone via RingGo or PaybyPhone. There is a license fee for these software packages which we can talk your through and they do take a transaction fee on each charging session.

Which charge point should I choose?

Most of our customers have the same view on this which is ‘It just needs to work and look the part’. We agree so when we’ve completed a site assessment we’ll recommend the best hardware to suit your needs.

How many chargers can I have?

We tend to start with the question ‘how many vehicles do you have on the average day that need to charge at your location?’ followed by ‘how many vehicles do you think you will have that need to charge in the next ~5 years?’ From this we can recommend the right number and power output based on the site supply, budget and installation location. For example for several clients we might only install 2 or 3 charge points initially but we make sure we install the infrastructure for additional units in the future to ensure we only have to dig the car park up once.

Where is the best place to install my home charge points?

The simple answer is ‘next to where you park your vehicles’ however for many clients it can be more cost effective to install the points closer to the main electricity supply or in a location that doesn’t involve a lot of groundworks. We can talk you through the options and costs involved with different installation locations at your site.
